Five Tips to Stay on Top of Senior Year

Happy September! School is beginning to start and the stress is soon to come. I am now a high school senior and it is a very scary feeling knowing about everything I need to accomplish in such a short time. It is very hard to stay on top of everything you must do in order to have a successful school year. With everything a senior must do including homework, college applications, extra curricular activities, and somehow finding time to relax, it can be very hard to find a balance without becoming extremely stressed out. Trust me I know this from first hand experience. So today I'll be sharing my five tips on how to stay on top of senior year.

5. TRY AND PLAN AHEAD
In general it is always good to know what your next move is. From planning your outfit the night before, to making weekend plans before the weekend comes, knowing what is going to happen next in your life is comforting. If you are always doing things last minute, it can put unnecessary stress on your body.

4. TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF
Along with all the things a senior must do before graduation it is very important to take some well-deserved me-time. Spend some time 'binging" your favorite Netflix show, or maybe take up a hobby such as painting. As long as you know you have some time to spare, it is always a good idea to unwind.

3. START THE COMMON APPLICATION EARLY
It may seem insane to start filling out college applications in September, but some are very tedious, including the common application, which is a universal application used by many American schools. Try and set aside a strict time to work on it each week, for example, every Thursday at 5:00pm you work on it for 30 minutes. It will help lighten the stress of filling out applications if you know you are ahead of the game.

2. IF YOU HAVE TIME, START THAT TEDIOUS WORK
If a teacher assigns an essay that isn't due until the next week, try your best to start early. One night you may have a light workload, so put aside 20 minutes to work on long assignments. If you wait until the last possibly minute you will become stressed out. Nobody likes stress pimples!

1. ALWAYS KEEP A PLANNER
Having a planner and writing down every single thing you need to do will help you keep track of the many assignments and deadlines you will have throughout the school year. In the past I haven't been keen on writing in a planner. So to motivate myself I bought a wicked cute planner, designed by Kate Spade (Papyrus $36). It was a little pricey for something that will be thrown in a backpack, but I use the price as a motivation to use it! So far it's been working.
